Trayvon Martin Poem
Another innocent smile turned into a
father’s heartache
As he awaits the confirmation of the identity
of the corpse
His thoughts morph into moans of despair
Once he notices the pair of shoes his son
would often wear
There on the ground surrounded by blood,
dirt, and a pack of skittles
Questions of the circumstances that lead to
this confounds him like riddles
How can the heart of evil be so dark in the
middle of the sunshine state?
Hate knows no depths, perimeters, or limits
Hours seem like days, seconds seem like
minutes
He just wants to know why his son is a
victim…
Who punishes the innocent, who sacrifices
the children?
This has to be the definition of evil
Because only the mind of Satan could be
lurking, waiting, and preying on our babies,
Now this parent is praying for his baby
And lately it seems his life has no meaning
or value
Murdered as casually as disposing trash in
the garbage
This heartless monster that targeted Trayvon
Gun in hand stands free to leave the scene
Kill at will, no arrest, modern day Emmitt Till

Current Thoughts
I am sitting here watching documentaries on slavery and life for African Americans post-slavery and through the civil rights movement. I must say that each time I see the struggle of my people it gives sense of pride because I recognize the sacrifices and
how I am able to benefit from those sacrifices. Looking at who I am and where I can from, and the people who gave birth to me gives way to feelings and emotions that cannot easily be articulated. I keep my goals and dreams in clear view so that the sacrifices made for us will not be in vain. I appreciate their struggle and the love that I have for them will last throughout all eternity. Out of respect for my ancestors and for the many blessings God continually bestows on me I will continue to live a life of abundance, prosperity, and exceeding joy so that I can be a blessing and servant to others.
