FEDERAL BENEFIT PAYMENT/ENTITLEMENT

I received the following in an email today.  Interesting and thought provoking. Let me start by saying that my knowledge of government dealings is not strong.  Once I research an issue then I am able to form my own opinion.  That being said I honestly do not know if the following is entirely true, however I am going to give my thoughts as if this was 100% true.

What blows my mind is how human beings have become so hardened to the needs of their peers.  I do feel that there are some politicians who sincerely care about those in need but I feel there are far too many who are only looking out for their own personal interests.  Everyone has something to say about "Obama Care" but no one seems to have a better idea.  The burden of the economy is falling on what's left of the middle class.  Sad thing is there were many people struggling before the economy got bad so I can only imagine what how they're doing now.  It's crazy that I'm paying into this system and it may not even be around when I need it!

I could go on and on regarding this topic but I have a trip to pack for so I am going to pause here.  Lets discuss, what are your thoughts?

Have you noticed, your Social Security check is now referred to as a "federal benefit payment"? I'll be part of the one percent, to forward this. Our government gets away with way too much in all areas of our lives, while they live lavishly on their grossly overpaid incomes! KEEP PASSING THIS AROUND UNTIL EVERY ONE HAS READ IT.

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT. THE ONLY THING WRONG WITH THIS CALCULATION IS THEY FORGOT TO FIGURE IN THE PEOPLE WHO DIED BEFORE THEY COLLECTED THEIR SOCIAL SECURITY! WHERE DID THAT MONEY GO?

This was sent to me, I am forwarding it because it does touch a nerve in me.

Remember, not only did you contribute to Social Security but your employer did too. It totaled 15% of your income before taxes. If you averaged only $30K over your working life, that's close to $220,500. If you calculate the future value of $4,500 per year (yours & your employer's contribution) at a simple 5% (less than what the government pays on the money that it borrows), after 49 years of working you'd have $892,919.98. If you took out only 3% per year, you'd receive $26,787.60 per year and it would last better than 30 years (until you're 95 if you retire at age 65) and that's with no interest paid on that final amount on deposit! If you bought an annuity and it paid 4% per year, you'd have a lifetime income of $2,976.40 per month.

The folks in Washington have pulled off a bigger Ponzi scheme than Bernie Madhoff ever had. Entitlement my ass, I paid cash for my social security insurance! Just because they borrowed the money from the fund - which was promised never to happen - and never paid it back, doesn't make my benefits some kind of charity or handout!!

Congressional benefits ---- free healthcare, outrageous retirement packages, 67 paid holidays, three weeks paid vacation, unlimited paid sick days, now that's welfare, and they have the nerve to call my social security retirement entitlements?

We're "broke" and can't help our own Seniors, Veterans, Orphans, Homeless. In the last months we have provided aid to Haiti, Chile , and Turkey. And now Pakistan, home of bin Laden. Literally, BILLIONS of DOLLARS!

Our retired seniors living on a 'fixed income' receive no aid nor do they get any breaks while our government and religious organizations pour Hundreds of Billions of $$$$$$'s and Tons of Food to Foreign Countries!

They call Social Security and Medicare an entitlement even though most of us have been paying for it all our working lives and now when it's time for us to collect, the government is running out of money. Why did the government borrow from it in the first place? Imagine if the *GOVERNMENT* gave 'US' the same support they give to other countries.

Sad isn't it? 99% of people won't have the guts to forward this. I'm one of the 1%, I Just Did.

I'm Black and I'm Beautiful!

Remembering Dr. King

I would be wrong if I didn't not pay  tribute and honor a man who literally changed history.  He allowed God to use him in an unforgettable way.  Dr. King's life's work had a profound impact on the life I am able to live today.  While things in sense have improved we still must remember there is still work to be done. With that being said let us continue working towards his dream.

With love to Dr. King and Family.

Family Tree: Discovering Me

I have always been drawn to African American history.  I remember growing up and my grandmother telling me about relatives that had long passed away.  Apart me was a little sad because I never had the opportunity to meet these people.  Her stories left me with so many questions in which I had very little options to obtain an answer.

After talking with my co-worker, she showed me her family tree.  Her tree with went back numerous generations.  It was simply amazing to see all that history in one location.  Just seeing her family tree inspired me to embark on the journey of compiling my own family tree.  In less than one week I was able to identify 3 great great grandparents.  In addition I found out one of my great great grandparents is from the Bahamas.  I was able to find census records and even some World War I draft cards that could possibly belong to my great great uncle.  As I complied this information I was filled with pride yet sadness.  Looking at the years in which my family was born I realized they lived during times in which they were likely slaves.  Having looked at 1900 census records I discovered that anything prior to 1870 would be of little use to me since we were not identified by name on census records until the 1870s.  Prior to that we were simply identified by age and sex since we were considered property (unless you were over 100 years old).  My journey to identify my family has encouraged some of my family to help me so that we can have a central record of who we are and where we come from.

I strongly encourage everyone to embark on a journey to discover your family history.  We as individuals need to know our history and who we are.  I will return periodically to provide updates.  As always your feedback and comments are always welcome!
